Fourth of July weekend festivities - July 1

Posted by Dana Lynn Thompson

Scott and I had a busy and event filled Fourth of July weekend. It all started Saturday night with a BBQ and bluegrass jam we attended at Moonlight Stables in Acworth.

The farm is 400+ acres of beautiful rolling pastures, ponds and creeks. At the far back of the property down a long and winding dirt road, there is a small pavilion where bluegrass pickers (including Patty Loveless' husband Emory Gordy Jr. on bass!) were set up.

There was tons of yummy food, great music and lots of good company. We enjoyed hanging out with Doc Stovall, a cowboy poet and songwriter and meeting his family. Doc and Scott are in the process of putting together a western music band for the Booth Museum. Stay tuned for details on that!

We also met Western Music Association Female Performer of the Year for 2005, Belinda Gail. She is one of the sweetest people you could ever meet and boy can she sing! She also owns a Taylor Running Horses Guitar. She let Scott try it out and Scott loved it! You can see the guitar on the home page of Belinda's website.

At about 9:30, they told us to get ready for the fireworks. Ok, we're thinking some sparklers, a few bottle rockets, a couple of minor little lights and pops. Nope! They had a fireworks display to rival any major city's display! We "ooohed" and "aaaaaahed" and thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks from a front row seat just across the field. Such a great time!
