Last Friday after work Scott and I hit the road in a borrowed trailer with Buster and Star to attend a roping clinic in Forsyth, GA. Scott had been practicing throwing the rope since we found out about the clinic in July and was ready to try his hand at roping a real live cow.
We got on the road about 7pm on Friday and met up with our friend Jim and his horse Nicholas so we could travel together. We almost got in a wreck just south of Atlanta. A lady in a CRV decided to change lanes at a bad time causing the car she cut off to rear end her. That car promptly stopped in the middle of the lane causing the semi truck and us with the horse trailer to have to lock it up. The semi went to the left of the stopped vehicle and Scott was able to go into the shoulder to get the trailer stopped. Jim, who was following behind us, had to take a quick right onto an exit ramp to avoid the mess. Thank goodness everyone was ok and the horses were fine. But we all wanted to kill that lady in the CRV!
It was a fun-filled weekend. It was amazing how much the guys and horses learned in just three days. They went from standing on the ground roping a dummy to herding cattle to roping cows. I rode Buster in the round pen with some cows and took him on a nice trail ride on Tim and Connie's 85 acres. Buster didn't seem to mind the cows at all. My other jobs consisted of official photographer, medic (passing out band-aids and taping up fingers), waterboy, and horse groom. I am very excited about some of the photographs - they came out amazing! And they'll be even better once they are cropped and "fixed" in PhotoShop. I cannot wait to get scrapbooking these ones!!
There were too many pictures to post here, so I've put together a slide show online so everyone can see them. Click here to go to Kodak Picture Gallery and view the slide show.
We are already looking for our next opportunity to go and work some cows. We really had a great time! And I may even get to do the clinician's new website. What a great weekend!
