Wastin' away again in Margaritaville

Posted by Dana Lynn Thompson

On Friday, June 2nd we hopped on the rented bus for a fun trip to Margaritaville...aka the Jimmy Buffett concert at Hi Fi Buys Ampitheater in Atlanta. There were 18 of us on the bus and we enjoyed snacks and Scott played guitar on the way down.

When we arrived, our amazing bus driver backed that super long bus 1/2 way across the parking lot between cars, people, tents and other buses to get us a good spot. It turned out to be the perfect spot because there was a PA set up and a guy playing music right there. Our group decided he wasn't very good, so as soon as he took a break, they asked him if Scott could get up and sing. Scott entertained the crowd for about an hour and that guy made more tips in that hour than he'd made all day!

Just as Scott was finishing up, it started to rain. Then it started to pour and there was a lot of lightning. Thank goodness for the bus!! We all piled on the bus, ate some more BBQ, listened to Scott play and waited to hear if the concert was still on. Finally, at about 8pm, we heard it was a go, so we all headed toward the venue. Unfortunately, the heavy rain had turned the parking lot into a muddy, garbage-filled soup which we were all treading through, along with a thousand other people, in sandals. GROSS! It was still raining and we had no umbrellas or raincoats. Then, for some bizarre and utterly stupid reason, they had only one gate open. So we had to stand out in the rain, herded together like cattle, waiting to get in for almost an hour.

But finally we were in and enjoyed the second half of the show. We danced in the aisle, hit beach balls in the air, and sang at the top of our lungs! So fun!

On the way home, we were again grateful for the bus. While others were waiting in their cars for hours to get out, our bus driver had the bus ready to go and as soon as we were all on, we were outta there! We had a big sing a long on the way home and I think we were all sorry when we got back to Rome so quickly. We are all looking forward to next year!!
